9 Reasons Why New Orleans Is The Most Unique City In America
We all know New Orleans is one of the best cities in the country. The food, the history, the people, everything about New Orleans is just so unique, it’s no wonder why we are a top tourist destination. Here are 9 reasons why New Orleans is one of the most unique cities in America.
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate

People travel from all over the country to try our unique cuisine, and chefs spend years learning from some of the best in the industry. From gumbo to beignets, our food simply can’t be beat.

From an architectural standpoint, it’s absolutely beautiful. The Spanish and French style architecture mixed with creole cottages are part of what makes the quarter so special. Of course, the tourist appeal is Bourbon Street, and we can’t argue—it’s pretty unique.

When people think of New Orleans, generally one of two things come to mind: Bourbon Street and Mardi Gras. While we New Orleanians know that there’s so much more to this city than that, you’ve got to admit, Mardi Gras really does make the city stand out.

Love ‘em or hate ‘em (and you probably love ‘em right now), they are a huge part of this city’s vibrant spirit. Who Dat!

We have access to live music at so many venues, bars, and restaurants that you just can’t find anywhere else. Not only in venues, but just walk around the French Quarter and you’re bound to hear some amazing music from talented street performers.

French Quarter Fest, Jazzfest, Seafood Festival, I could go on and on. We have so many festivals in New Orleans, it’s hard to keep track. Starting in the spring and lasting until late fall, there’s a festival happening just about every weekend, and it’s glorious.

We are so used to them, but they really are a unique part of New Orleans. These hauntingly beautiful tombs are so uniquely New Orleans.

We have so many talented artists in New Orleans. What’s even better, is that no one loves New Orleans artists more than New Orleanians. You can walk into any home in New Orleans and I’d bet you’d find at least one piece by a local artist.

I don’t know that there’s any other city in the country that identifies with a symbol as much as New Orleanians identify with the fleur de lis. The fleur de lis has a long history with New Orleans, but after hurricane Katrina it became a popular sign of rebuilding, community, and perseverance. You can’t go two blocks without seeing this iconic symbol, either on a business, street sign, or someone’s shirt.
