The Tammany Trace is a converted rail-to-trail that’s perfect for anyone looking to do some exploring.

The paved trail is great for runners, bikers, and rollerbladers alike. There's even an equestrian trail that runs for certain parts.
Established in 1992, the trail runs for about 31 miles.

In a beautiful moment of upcycling, the trail used to be a corridor for the Illinois Central Railroad.
When it became obsolete, St. Tammany Parish wanted to find a way to use the abandoned railroad.

Through the use of grants and some federal assistance, they were able to asphalt 31 miles of railroad tracks into paved walkways and remodeled the railroad trestles into pedestrian bridges.
