This One Little Town Near New Orleans Is A Nature Lover’s Dream
Sometimes, you just need to get out of the city and immerse yourself in nature to recharge. Luckily, you don’t have to go very far to experience the lovely Louisiana natural landscapes that are all around us. You may have never heard of the town, but you’ve probably heard of the beautiful state park that lies within it, and it’s a nature lover’s dream.
Springfield is a tiny town over in Livingston Parish.
With a population of less than 1,000, it’s safe to say that this is a town that has more pine trees than people.
One of the most popular attractions in this charming little town is the Tickfaw State Park.
The Tickfaw State Park is one of the newer state parks in Louisiana, having been open since 1999. It quickly grew in popularity because of its beautiful scenery and close proximity to both Baton Rouge and New Orleans.
At approximately 1,200 acres, the Tickfaw State Park is a nature lover’s dream.
The park features four different ecosystems to explore: a mixed pine-hardwood forest, a bottomland hardwood forest, a cypress-tupelo swamp, and the Tickfaw River.
It’s so beautiful that the park has been recognized as one of 110 sites on the Louisiana Natural Areas Registry for its incredible natural scenery.
The various ecosystems provide a habitat for various wildlife including alligators, beavers, deer, fox, possums, and many different species of birds.
As you explore the five miles of trails throughout the park, keep your eyes peeled for the many different wildlife that calls the area home.
The boardwalk trails will lead you on an incredible journey with some of the most breathtaking scenery in Louisiana.
There are also several campsites and cabins if you’re looking to make a weekend out of it.
Spend your evenings listening to the symphony of sounds from the surrounding swamps while you roast some marshmallows. Sounds like a quintessential Louisiana evening!
If you’ve never been night hiking, this is your chance.
They frequently offer ranger-led night hikes that will lead you through the trails in an unforgettable experience that is fun for the whole family.
You can find the Tickfaw State Park at 27225 Patterson Rd., Springfield, Louisiana 70462.
