Did you realize how many beautiful lighthouses that can be found around New Orleans? In fact, there used to be more, but recent storms have done a number on a few of the historic lighthouses out on the gulf coast. But there are still three beautiful lighthouses to explore in the area. Here’s the trip that you are definitely going to enjoy–a great way to spend an afternoon!

This lighthouse was originally built in 1856, found at the end of the Atchafalaya Bay. Eventually the land around the lighthouse began to disappear, so the town of Berwick decided to preserve it, moving its current location on the river in this small town. You can find it at 3298 Front St., Berwick.

This historic lighthouse is found on Lake Pontchartrain and is also known as the Port Pontchartrain. You may remember it if you ever spent time on Pontchartrain beach! It was originally built to anchor the community of Milneburg, when that was a resort community on the lake outside of the rest of New Orleans. You can now find it off of Lakeshore drive at the end of Elysian Fields Ave.
This lighthouse has been damaged a number of times over the year but most recently lovingly restored and now operated by the Lake Pontchartrain Basin Foundation. It's used as a museum and educational center--and can even be rented for events! Visit at 8001 Lakeshore Drive.
