9 Undeniable Habits That No New Orleanian Can Ever Unlearn
New Orleanians are a special breed, there’s no doubt about it. There are just some habits that you pick up when you live here, and you don’t even think twice about it until an out of state visitor points it out. Here are nine every New Orleanian is guilty of.
1. Being nice to strangers
Holding doors open for people and smiling as you pass others on the sidewalks are just part of what makes us so great.
2. Cooking red beans & rice on a Monday
Bonus points if you soak the beans the night before.
3. Saying "sir" and "ma’am"
Our mamas raised us right!
4. Having a supply of go-cups
They’re most likely Mardi Gras cups, and everyone has a section of their cupboard reserved for them. Your stash is probably running a bit low this time of year, but don’t worry! Mardi Gras is just around the corner, so you can stock up soon enough.
5. Asking where you went to high school
Everyone always asks this, and it is a little odd.
6. Having a set place for each Mardi Gras Parade
If you have little ones, you claim your territory with one of these ladders.
7. Knowing your neighbors
They become an extended member of your family.
8. Having a ton of Saints gear
And having that one special jersey that’s your "lucky" jersey you always wear on game day.
9. Supporting local artists
Every festival is a chance to pick up a new piece of art for your home or unique jewelry to add to your collection.
