This New Orleans Restaurant Became A Local Legend By Perfecting Just One Food Item
When you’ve got a good thing going, why mess with it? That’s precisely what this particular restaurant is all about. They’ve perfected fried chicken and it’s one of the reasons they’ve become a local legend in the restaurant scene here in New Orleans.
If you find yourself craving fried chicken, then you have to head over to Willie Mae’s Scotch House.
This family-owned restaurant joint opened in 1957 originally as a bar, and also spent some time as a barbershop and a beauty parlor before becoming the legendary restaurant it is today.
Located in the Treme neighborhood, it’s not uncommon to find a long line wrapping around the block.
It’s worth the wait, we promise.
When you step inside, you can’t help but sense the history of this iconic eatery.
The vibe is super casual and you’ll feel like family from the moment you walk in.
When it comes to fried chicken, no one does it better then Willie Mae’s.
There’s a reason they’ve been a favorite for both locals and tourists for nearly half a century. Perfectly seasoned and fried to a golden brown, you're sure to be licking your fingers afterwards.
And it doesn’t stop there.
Not only is their fried chicken finger-licking good, but their sides are equally amazing.
Sure, the chicken is the star of the show here, but don’t miss an opportunity to fest on some of the best southern comfort food around.
Macaroni and cheese, fried okra, candied yams, and more. Pro tip: get a few different sides for the table so you can try a little bit of everything. And whatever you do, don’t forget about the cornbread muffins. Trust us on this one.
Willie Mae’s is located at 2401 St Ann St, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119.
They’re open Monday — Saturday 10AM-8PM.
