Sometimes, you just need to take a break and immerse yourself in the beautiful natural landscape that Louisiana has to offer. Tucked away in Baton Rouge is a peaceful botanic garden that’s both a great hands-on learning experience and the perfect relaxing attraction for when you need to unplug for a moment.
The LSU AgCenter Botanic Gardens are part of the Burden Museum & Gardens, which also consists of the Windrush Gardens and the Rural Life Museum.
Their stipulation upon donation was that the land and property be used for horticultural, agronomic, and environmental research, and to further develop the Rural Life Museum. They wanted to create a space for the community to enjoy - and that’s just what they did.

And with so many plant species in bloom right now, it's the perfect time to get outside and do some exploring.

You can expect to see daffodils, irises, roses, and maybe even tulips and camellias.

The bottomland hardwood forest leads you to a beautiful rain-fed wetland named the "Black Swamp," which is peppered with 200-year-old tupelo trees that will make you feel like you’re a thousand miles away from it all.
