Your Kids Will Love The Easy Trails Right Here At Camp Salmen Nature Park In Louisiana

One of the perks of Louisiana’s relatively flat terrain is that the majority of Louisiana’s hiking trails are kid-friendly. Sure, some may be longer than others, and we wouldn’t necessarily recommend taking a five-year-old on a 26-mile hiking adventure, but there are plenty of short and sweet hiking trails that are great ways to introduce to the next generation of nature lovers. This one lovely park in Louisiana is a perfect spot to bring the whole family out for a day of adventure. 

Camp Salmon is a 130-acre park in Slidell that’s equal parts historical and scenic treasure.

One of the first buildings you’ll see is this house. Thought to be one of the oldest Native American trading posts in the region, the building dates back to the early 1800s. Back then, there was actually a major ferry across the bayou which operated until the early 1900s. During the turn of the 20th century, the Salmon Brick and Lumber Company operated here until 1924 when it was donated to the Boy Scouts of America.
There are five trails that weave throughout the park, including a part of the Tammany Trace which briefly makes an appearance here.

You might even see some wildlife during your visit! Keep an eye out for a hungry heron or egret wading in the water hunting for a tasty snack.
After you've hit the trails, if your kids still have some energy to release, head over to the playground.

Or enjoy nature's playground! There are so many ancient oaks around the park, and several of them have long branches that touch the ground, making them ideal to climb on.
