The Louisiana Park That Will Make You Feel Like You Walked Into A Fairy Tale
There’s a state park in Louisiana that’s simply magical. Well manicured lawns, beautiful gardens, water features, and a large lake make this park the perfect place to escape to when you need to recharge.
Located in Sabine Parish, Hodges Gardens State Park is one of the most unique state parks in Louisiana.
The park officially opened in 1956, and was the brainchild of A.J. Hodges
The park is part of the original 107,000 acres of land that Mr. Hodges purchased around 1940.
He planted pine seedlings over 39,000 of those acres and became a leader in the reforestation movement. Once they saw the potential of the land, he and his wife began building the gardens.
Today, the park is 700 acres of well maintained natural beauty.
Visitors to the park can enjoy a casual stroll through the formal gardens
Depending on what time of year you go, you can expect a variety of plants and flowers including roses, azaleas, yellow spider lilies, zinnas, and many more.
There are also several nature trails ranging from half a mile to over 7 miles.
Paved walkways throughout the gardens allow you to stroll through the beautiful landscape.
The winding paths and water features are sure to relax you after a long week.
The waterfalls are certainly a main attraction.
There are also a lookout tower so you can get a overhead view of this amazing place.
The 225 acre lake is peaceful place to fish, kayak, or just relax and take in the view.
Unfortunately, due to state budget cuts, this park is in danger of closing.
