These 11 Parishes Have the Healthiest People in Louisiana

Louisiana isn’t always very well known for its health, but there are some bright spots. We’re here to share them with you. According to CountyHealthRankings.org, these are the top most healthy parishes in the state. The rankings include a variety of factors, from quality of life to health care providers to pollution and environmental factors.
While somewhat lower in other areas, La Salle stood out on this ranking by coming in at number 1 for quality of life rankings, including poor or fair health, poor mental health day and low birthweight.
Vermillion ranked high in this area, with a high percentage of high school graduation and fewer injury deaths than the state average.

Bossier parish only suffered from an average of 59 injury deaths, significantly lower than the state average of 75, and had significantly fewer premature deaths compared to the state average.

St. Charles Parish stood out for having a high quality of life ranking and high health factors rating.
Lincoln parish had a high ranking of health behaviors, with only 15% of adults smoking compared to state average of 22% and only 16% alcohol-impaired driving deaths, compared to the state average of 33%.

Clinical care stands out in West Feliciana parish, with a good ratio of doctors to residents and preventable hospital stays.
Quality of life rankings boosted Plaquemines parish on this list, with few people reporting fair or poor health and a below average number of people taking poor physical or mental health days.
The clinical ranking for Ascension Parish included an average of 52 preventable hospital stays, a big improvement from the state average of 80.

Lafayette had a lower percentage of people in poor or fair health, only 14% compared to the state average of 20%.
St. Tammany parish came in #2 in this ranking, with adult obesity and physical inactivity rates that are much lower than the state average.
This parish had the highest rank in the state, including a child poverty rate 10% lower than the state average and significantly lower pollution and other environmental factors than other parishes in the state.
