This Old Fashioned Restaurant In The Louisiana Cajun Country Will Take You Back To Simpler Times

Sometimes, you just need some good old fashioned comfort food to soothe your soul. Tucked away in the heart of Cajun Country, this old-fashioned restaurant has been around for over 30 years, and you’re going to love it.

Located in Lafayette, Gator Cove has been a local favorite since 1982.

It all started around 1980, when AuBrey Henderson and his wife Bonnie decided to build a garage for their bus. Unfortunately, the bus was too tall to park in the garage, so they decided to turn lemons into lemonade and expand their BBQ business which had been open since 1978. The garage turned into Gator Cove, which churns out some of the best crawfish in Cajun Country.
Gator Cove officially opened to the public in 1982. Over the years, its menu has expanded to include many Cajun and Creole favorites.

The original garage is in the dining room and is painted with incredible murals - a nice nod to the history of the iconic Lafayette eatery. Today, the restaurant is run by Jay and Peggy Voorhies, who continue the family tradition.
Even as you park, you’ll notice the beautiful bayou views.

And all the wildlife! Gators, deer, and even a few peacocks call the area home.

This is a great place to eat when you’re with a group that can’t decide on what they want.

Fried alligator, catfish bites, cheese sticks, popcorn shrimp, and onion sticks - this thing is a meal in itself - but be sure to save room for your entree because they’ve got some mouthwatering dishes to blow your taste buds away.
