Just because it’s winter doesn’t mean the adventure has to stop! This particular campground is great in every season, but an absolute delight in the wintertime, as you get to cozy up next to a fire, roast s’mores, and listen to the crackling fire. Located in Ville Platte, the 6,400-acre state park is one of the largest state parks and offers everything from rolling hills to a fully stocked lake.

The 2,000-acre, man-made lake is stocked with bass, crappie, bluegill, and more, so you can fish to your heart’s content. There are three boat launches, a boat rental facility, a 400-foot fishing pier, and cleaning stations available for use.

This extensive trail completely encircles the lake, and there are many primitive campsites along the way to set up a tent and rough it for a night or two. It’s also a great trail for mountain bikers if you are up for the challenge!
If you prefer an actual bed and modern conveniences, there are also multiple cabins available for rent.
