There are plenty of amazing opportunities to go camping in Louisiana, each one with beautiful scenery, peaceful hiking trails, and maybe even a fishing hole or two. There’s one particular campground in Louisiana that features one of the most unique camping experiences you can have in the Pelican State, and you’re going to want to book yourself a stay here immediately. How often do you get the opportunity to spend the night in a covered wagon? That’s right! Get in touch with your inner pilgrim because you’re going back in time to the days of exploration in the Wild West.
Conveniently located just off of Highway 1 in northern Shreveport, the Caddo Lake Area KOA is one of the best campgrounds in northern Louisiana for anyone looking for a little rest and relaxation for a few days.
The campground is divided up into two parts: West Campground and East Campground. They're both very different experiences so you can pick whichever appeals most to you.
Don't forget sunscreen! We've all made that mistake, and boy can it really put a damper on your day. You could spend a whole week just lounging by the water enjoying the natural beauty around this campsite.
The campground offers several activities that the entire family can enjoy, like barrel train rides and jumping pillows.
Even if you don't have kids on this trip, we still highly recommend the barrel train ride. Pure joy. It's a huge perk when a campground comes with so many activities to do as well. There's never a dull moment around here.
You've got to choose: are you team ducky or team swan? We are totally team ducky. This activity is as wonderful for families as for romantic date nights, and it's a great way to see the whole lake and orient yourself in the area.
But the real star of the show here is where you'll be sleeping.
First, yes they have AC (and a heater too), as well as electrical so you can plug in your devices and stay connected if you need to. The original pioneers of the west definitely didn't have that, so you'll be a little better rested and better connected than those travelers!
Each wagon has a king bed and a set of bunk beds, along with a table and a mini fridge.
Think of it like a hybrid between a tent and a cabin. The wagons don’t have a bathroom, but they are conveniently located right across the driveway. It's the perfect balance between experiencing history and maintaining your modern amenities for the best possible experience.
You'll also have your own fire pit and comfy chairs to enjoy.
Enjoy a beautiful Shreveport sunset while indulging in s'mores and campfire stories! This campground has all the classic, beloved elements of camping and much, much more.
