Tucked away in the piney hills of Caddo Parish, you’ll find a little-known Chimpanzee Sanctuary that’s an absolute must-see. This hidden gem has been providing a habitat for rescued and retired chimpanzees for years, and it’s truly remarkable. Let’s take a closer look:

Chimp Haven was established in 1995 in an effort to provide a place for long-term care for chimpanzees.

The chimpanzees at Chimp Haven come from biomedical research labs, pet trade, or the entertainment industry. In 2000, Caddo Parish provided 200 acres of land for these beautiful creatures to call home, and they’ve been taking in chimps ever since.
Nestled within the Eddie D. Jones Nature Park, this spacious, forested land provides a much-needed sanctuary for these chimps.

As these furry friends cannot be reintroduced into the wild, Chimp Haven allows these animals to live in large social groups in a spacious outdoor habitat to live out their golden years climbing trees and feasting on fruits and vegetables.

Throughout the year, Chimp Haven hosts Chimpanzee Discovery Days, giving you the opportunity to visit the sanctuary and learn about these beautiful creatures.

The upcoming Discovery Days for 2019: March 16th, April 13th, October 19th, and November 16th. Mark your calendars! The doors open at 9 a.m. and admission is $10 for those 13 and older, $5 for kids ages 6-12, and free for anyone 5 and younger.
