For one of the most unique day trips you can take, pay a visit to the Chauvin Sculpture Garden in Chauvin, Louisiana. It’s easily one of the most unique sculpture gardens in Louisiana, and well worth a road trip from any corner of the state. Let’s take a closer look.

Hiding in the shadows of Terrebonne Parish along the Bayou Petit Caillou lies one of the most remarkable sculpture gardens in Louisiana.

Maintained by Nichols State University, this sculpture garden houses the works of artist Kenny Hill, who once lived on the property.

Mr. Hill lived on the property from 1988 until 2000, when he was evicted for not keeping the grass maintained.

During his time there, he created incredible sculptures…

…hundreds of them.

Bold and vibrant, these colorful statues carry a spiritual theme, with many angels and religious figures peppering the garden. Nicholls State repaints them every so often so they can be preserved for future generations.

Mr. Hill also included himself in several of the sculptures, often depicted struggling with the dominant good vs. evil theme that you’ll see over and over again as you stroll through the garden.

One of Hill's masterpieces is the lighthouse. Composed of 7,000 bricks and lined with countless statues, this piece will certainly make you stop in your tracks.
