When we think of Louisiana islands, it’s easy to just think of Avery Island or Grand Isle, but there are other barrier islands off of the coast. This national wildlife refuge, in particular, has a fascinating history and few people know about it, so let’s take a look at the Breton National Wildlife Refuge, shall we?
You can only access it by boat or floatplane.

Twenty-three different species of seabirds and shorebirds call the area home.
