Calling all history lovers – we have the perfect adventure for you! Grab your boots and gas up the car, because today we’re heading over to Belle Chasse, where you’ll find the Woodlands Conservancy – an incredible hidden gem with some of the most unique hiking trails in Louisiana.

Sprawling across over 600 acres in Belle Chasse, the Woodlands Conservancy is a nature lover’s paradise.

It's certainly not something you come across on your average hiking trail!
In the late 1930s, the government occupied about 5,000 acres in the area and used the site for ammunition storage during World War II, and then again during the Korean War.

In 1963, part of the property was sold to the state, which eventually became the Woodlands Conservancy. The remaining land is owned by the military and is currently used as the Coast Guard Communication Station, with a portion leased to the City of New Orleans for the Audubon Center for Research of Endangered Species.
Whether you're a birdwatcher, avid historian, or just looking to spend some time surrounded by Louisiana's beautiful natural landscape, the Woodlands Conservancy is the place to be.
