The Best Fried Chicken In Louisiana Is Served At This Iconic Hole-In-The-Wall Restaurant
Known for being the center of Zydeco music, Opelousas is rich in Creole culture. The city is the self-proclaimed “spice capital of the world,” and produces many of Louisiana’s favorite seasonings like Tony Chachere’s, Targil seasonings, and LouAna Cooking oil. It’s definitely a city to get your fix on all things Creole, but what you may be surprised to learn is that it’s also home to some of the best fried chicken, and you can find it at Mama’s.
Mama’s Fried Chicken has been a local favorite for nearly five decades.
The locally owned and operated eatery first opened its doors in 1977, and it quickly became such a hot spot it was able to open another location, also in Opelousas.
The casual joint is the go-to spot for those seeking a home-cooked meal without dirtying up your own kitchen.
The rolls, in particular, have a cult-like following. French fries and onion rights are traditional stand-by options, but we'd recommend going bold with an order of fried pickles, jalapeno slices, corn nuggets, or everyone's favorite Louisiana side dish: fried okra.
Pictured above are the fried Oreos, a dangerously delicious dessert that will make you question why we haven't been frying up these bad boys the entire time.
Visit Mama’s website for a full menu, and don’t forget to give them a follow on Facebook so you never miss out on any specials. Once you’re all fired up on fried chicken, here are some of our favorite things to do in Opelousas.
