Barataria Preserve is the perfect place to go when you’re looking to get away from it all and surround yourself in nature.

Located in Marrero, the Barataria Preserve offers a glimpse of Louisiana’s wild wetlands.

The preserve is 20,000 acres that include bayous, swamps, marshes, forests, along with hundreds of species of wildlife.

When you arrive, check out the Visitor’s Center for a quick run down on the history of the area and the importance of these wetlands.

There’s also public restrooms and water fountains here.
Then you’ll begin your boardwalk journey through the bayous and swamps.
