Sometimes all you need is a little change of scenery to recharge yourself. There are hundreds of trails in Louisiana that are ideal for those times when you just need to immerse yourself in Louisiana’s natural beauty, and this one trail, in particular, is so beautiful, it looks like something from another planet.

The Backbone Trail is located within the Kisatchie National Forest.

The forest is home to countless primitive trails that are ideal for nature lovers, and you can camp right along the trail if you’d like to make a weekend out of it.
The trail is about 15 miles out and back.

You can make this a loop trail if you follow the main road, Park Road 830, once you hit the trailhead on either side. This will add a few more miles to your journey, but then you won't be backtracking or have to worry about parking two cars at the trailhead.
It’s certainly one of the longer trails we’ve featured, so plan accordingly!

Bring lots of water and some bug spray, depending on the time of year you visit.
The hike is pretty easy, but a considerable challenge as far as Louisiana hiking trails are concerned.
