We believe that supporting local attractions is important now more than ever and we hope our articles inspire your future adventures! And on that note, please nominate your favorite local business that could use some love right now:
1. Take an airboat ride through the swamp.
There are swamp tours, sure, but an airboat tour will satisfy those with the need for speed while cruising through the beautiful Louisiana swamps. Airboat Adventures in Lafitte will give you a tour through 20,000 acres of cypress swamps. You’ll be surrounded by some of the most beautiful scenery in the world and the chance to see alligators, snakes, egrets, owls, and even bald eagles. Located at 5145 Fleming Park Rd., Lafitte, LA 70067.
2. Gators & Friends
This adventure park features more than 150 alligators and an exotic animal zoo with lemurs, kangaroos, capybara and many more. There are pony rides for the little ones, and for the more adventurous, an epic biplane that takes about an hour to complete. It’ll take you soaring through the woods and over the exotic animals before your final 720 feet, which you’ll be flying over a live alligator pond. Find it at 11441 Highway 80, Greenwood, LA 71033.
3. Global Wildlife
Founded in 1991, Global Wildlife is a fun adventure for the whole family. It’s one of the only places in Louisiana where you can get up close and personal with zebras, giraffes, camels, bison and more. You’ll ride in a safari style wagon through the 900-acre preserve and have the chance to feed some of the 4,000 exotic animals. It’s a day the entire family will remember. Located at 26389 Highway 40, Folsom, LA 70437.
4. EPIC Entertainment
This outdoor recreation center is the perfect place for anyone feeling adventurous. You can practice your archery skills, experience weightlessness in the gyroscope or fly down their zipline at speeds up to 21MPH. Their main attraction is the Thunder Roll, a 40-foot slide with an 8-foot kicker that’ll propel you into the air, landing on a giant air bag. Located at 130 N Ambassador Caffery Pkwy, Scott, LA 70583.
5. Spend the night with spirits.
Nestled in the sleepy little town of St. Francisville, the Myrtles Plantation was built in 1796 and is known for being the most haunted plantation in the country. You can take a guided tour during the day, but if you’re really adventurous, you can stay the night in one of the rooms in the plantation.
6. NOLA Flyboarding
When the weather warms up, this is a fantastic way to spend an afternoon. You’ll feel like Superman as water propels you vertically in the air over Lake Pontchartrain. Once you figure out your balance, you’ll feel like you’re defying gravity. They open back up for the season in March, and you can find them at 7400 Lakeshore Dr., New Orleans, LA 70124.
7. Take a moonlit kayak tour through the bayou.
Paddle through the bayous, listening to the sounds of the birds, crickets, frogs and other animals as the day gives way to night and the bayous come alive with a symphony of sounds. You may even see some eyes staring back at you… Rougarou or alligator? Canoe and Trail Adventure Tours in Lacombe would love to give you a twilight tour through the bayous. Find them at 24401 US Highway 190 Lacombe, LA 70445.
