Kentucky is no stranger to good bars — we are the bourbon capital of the world, as you know! — but there’s a new kid on the bourbon block that takes your typical bar and kicks things up to a whole other level. North of Bourbon celebrates the special relationship between New Orleans and the Bluegrass in a fun setting that’s reminiscent of a classic speakeasy. Kentucky is world famous for bourbon, with an entire neighborhood in Louisville known as the Bourbon District. And the newest kid on the bourbon block is North of Bourbon.
Dark, moody lighting, dazzling crystal chandeliers, and row upon row of amber elixirs line the shelves at this modern-day speakeasy. The floors are actually made from repurposed wood from an old rick house at Maker's Mark!
The name is a play on the bar being north of both Louisiana's Bourbon Street and Kentucky's Bardstown, AKA the bourbon capital of the world. It's fitting, and an absolutely enchanting addition to the Bluegrass Bourbon District!
And in true Southern fashion, the menu at North of Bourbon has a delightful mix of New Orleans and Bluegrass State favorites. (The gumbo is particularly wow worthy.)
But the main attraction at North of Bourbon is, of course, the bourbon. This bar boasts a massive spirits selection that would make any bourbon connoisseur's heart sing.
