Here Are The 10 Most Dangerous Towns In Kentucky To Live In
Kentucky is a beautiful place to live, if you choose the right area. I recently posted the “safest” cities in the state according to the FBI reports, so it’s only fair to do the most dangerous places to live. The crimes included to create this were robbery, rape, arson, murder, property crime, larceny, all violent crimes, and auto theft. The results are based on the population combined with the number of crimes committed, including ALL the above.
Here are the 10 most dangerous cities in Kentucky based on the FBI’s list:
Surprisingly, this popular community has around 58 reported crimes per every 1000 citizens. Only 23 were reported as violent. When visiting, this just looks like another small, traditional Bluegrass town, and it is, plus the crime rates.
This is a favorite spot to call home among Kentuckians, and apparently criminals as well. There are around 54 crimes reported per every 1000 citizens in this beautiful community. There were 201 violent crimes reported.
Though this is a smaller town, with under 9000 residents, the crime rate is through the roof, with only 31 violent crimes. However, there were 83 crimes reported via every 1000 citizens. Other than that, Versailles is a beautiful place to call home.
The Wildcat capital made the list of the most dangerous cities. The average crimes reported are around 47.8 per every 1000 citizens, of which 946 were violent. We cannot be sure if they included couch burnings and assaults against furniture in the figures, as many were reported a few years back.
This looks like a quiet place to live, and it can be. However, there are 48.16 crimes reported per every 1000 residents, which is surprising when you look around the community. There were 107 violent crimes reported.
This is the state capital, but not the state’s crime capital. There are under 26,000 residents and around 55.5 crimes reported per every 1000 of them, with 81 being violent.
This community on the outskirts of Louisville has around 15,000 residents and an average crime percentage of 48 crimes reported out of every 1000 citizens. There were 93 violent crimes reported.
This pleasant little town and home to the famed Newport Aquarium averages 87.59 crimes per 1000 people. Those are pretty big numbers for a population of only slightly over 15,000, but only 63 of the crimes reported were violent.
This bustling Kentucky city has under 30,000 people, and averages around 42.3 victims every 1000 residents. That's a pretty high rate of crime considering the population, but only around 78 reports were violent.
This should come as no big surprise considering Louisville led the US in murder the first part of 2015. That's right! We beat out New York, Detroit, Chicago, and the other previously crowned murder capitals of the US. We might have the Derby, but we have plenty of crimes that get buried under the mayor’s tourism propaganda. Our average is 49 crime victims per every 1000 people. There were 3,644 violent crimes reported.
Please don’t take things personally if you happen to live in one of these cities. This was not written to say, “run away screaming from these cities”. However, if you are looking for somewhere with a lower rate of crime in Kentucky, you should likely consider some of the other beautiful towns we have to offer. This was based on the FBI list and ONLY on crimes reported. We all know, many crimes don’t get reported. If you know of any other potentially dangerous cities in the Bluegrass, please comment below.
I am somewhat a cliche'. I grew up running around barefoot on a farm in Kentucky.
I love writing, art, sunshine, all animals and my incredibly patient husband, who tolerates my "crazy animal lady" side.
