Kentucky is home to more than 76,000 rural farms that produce everything from corn to mules, but there’s one family-owned farm in Brooksville that’s special. Lavender Hills of Kentucky was the first commercial lavender farm in The Bluegrass State, and it’s a charming place that will delight all your senses.
Welcome to the Lavender Hills of Kentucky! This pretty, 109-acre farm has been in the family since 1965. For decades, its main crop was tobacco.
When tobacco became an unsustainable crop, the family decided to find another way to make a living. They planted their first few lavender plants in 2005, and in 2006, had a small harvest with 750 bundles.
Today, the farm is thriving! Three generations of the Brother family participate in the tending of more than 1,000 lavender plants of 22 different varieties.
Lavender has many uses. It's a wonderful addition to any floral arrangement, whether fresh or dry. It's also used to create potpourri, soap, and lotions. Some people use it for aromatherapy, and you can even cook with it!
You'll definitely want to visit this fragrant farm. It's open to the public for drop-in visits from June through October. Take a stroll through the gardens and breathe in all that wonderful lavender fragrance.
You might also enjoy a Lavender Luncheon. The tasty lunch includes curried lavender chicken salad, homemade yeast rolls, mixed green salad, deviled eggs, and lavender rum cake.
You'll find everything from homemade soaps and cleaning products to potpourri and little bundles of dried lavender that will make your home smell wonderful.
