The restaurant traces its roots all the way back to 1781 when Captain John Holder, a contemporary of Daniel Boone, was a defender during the siege of Fort Boonesborough, which took place one mile up-river from Hall’s current location. On this property, Captain Holder established a boatyard, a station, and Holders Tavern.
In the decades -- nee, centuries -- since, the restaurant has changed hands several times, though it remains in the same location overlooking the Kentucky River from 1781.
Its prime waterfront location isn't without risk, however; the restaurant has found itself in the river during flood season, always enduring and reopening with renewed vim and vigor.
