No one knows for sure why it's called this strange name, but some say that when a visitor returned home and was asked about the Kentucky town, he responded it was "hell for certain."

No matter where this came from, it seems to have stuck as the creek that flows through the area and the road alongside it still have that name. It's one of many tiny towns in Leslie County, an area that has seen some dark times over the years.
