10 Strange Habits Every Kentuckian Will Defend To The Death

Each state in the United States is filled with a diverse population that typically can’t all agree on much. However, in Kentucky these ten habits are uniquely strange to those of us residing in the Bluegrass State. We may all differ in many ways, but most of us share these tendencies and will defend our actions to the death.
We are friendly here in Kentucky, and what's friendlier than greeting everyone from your mother to a complete stranger with a warm, "Hey Y'all!" We think it's normal, but it doesn't mean we're too lazy to say "you all." We just prefer to be charming and unique.
When you talk to people about where they live in Kentucky, you'll most likely end up in a conversation about a certain county, rather than a city, town or neighborhood. Each county seems to have its own character and even those right next to each other can vary greatly in landscape, attractions and population.

Bourbon was born in Kentucky and we don't mess around with it. Mint Juleps are best enjoyed while watching a horse race. Sweet tea is refreshing with fried chicken and barbecue and Ale-8 is good pretty much any time.

For some reason, Kentucky can get a bad rep when it comes to education. But we strongly disagree as we have a number of top notch Universities and are passionate about educating our youngest Kentuckians.
It's a safe bet that most Kentuckians have told the classic Kentucky joke - "How do you pronounce the capital of Kentucky?" And we still get a kick out of watching visitors try and say "Louisville" correctly, despite the fact that it's not the capital.

It's called many things across the country, but it will always be Cornhole in the Bluegrass. This bag tossing game is a pastime of picnics, tailgates and basically any kind of get together that involves four or more people.

Kentuckians have probably had an argument or two about whether Kentucky should still be considered a southern state. The reality is that given our Ohio River border to the north, we are southern and most are quick to tell you that.
