This Gas Station Cafe Is The Most Scrumptious Secret In Kentucky
The best eateries in Kentucky can often be found in the most unexpected places, such as attached to a rather ordinary gas station. Most people do not relate gas stations to fine dining, but that just depends on what your definition of fine dining happens to be. If it means amazing food, sweet treats, and a longstanding record of positively impacting the community, then Amon’s Sugar Shack in Somerset is as fine as it gets. This gas station cafe is indeed located adjacent to a Shell station, but it is one of the most scrumptious secrets in Kentucky.

Amon's Sugar Shack has been a local favorite bakery in Somerset since 1951. It was in that year that Amon and Rosemary Stephens were gifted the bakery by Rosemary's uncle for her birthday.

Amon’s, of course, caters to locals, but all guests encounter a welcoming atmosphere as soon as they step through the doors. You'll be able to see and smell the sweet treats that the bakery creates, and can also check out the equally enticing breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus.
The bakery also offers dozens of other varieties of donuts, and no matter what time of day you visit, you'll need to pick out one to try. In fact, just go ahead and take a variety box to go.
The bakery offers other sugary treats, all of which are made from family recipes. The beautifully decorated cakes are perfect for any celebration, and many visit the town just to get one of these sweet confections.
As wonderful as the sweet side of Amon's is, the cafe is just as scrumptious. The charming eatery serves up breakfast, lunch, and dinner, and the menu includes all of the classics. The burgers are a favorite and are served on a fresh, homemade bun from the bakery.
If you're in the city on a Wednesday evening, definitely visit Amon's for the famous turkey dinner special.
