Satisfy Your Sweet Tooth Along This Delicious Kentucky Candy Trail

There is something downright magical about walking into an old-fashioned candy store. The sweet smell in the air and the overwhelming amount of choices you have are enough to make you feel like a kid again. Lucky for Kentuckians, we have an awesome “Sugar and Spice Trail” that will satisfy your sweet tooth and maybe give you a few wonderful gift ideas for the upcoming holiday season. The portion located in northern Kentucky is an official Kentucky culinary trail, but we added a couple of great candy stores on to the list that candy lovers everywhere must try.
The map starts with the official culinary trail in northern Kentucky, and then branches off to stops in Frankfort and Louisville. Click here for an interactive map that you can adjust however you want.
Schneider's is still located in their original 1939 location in Bellevue. Stop in and get a few of their specialty Opera Creams. Schneider's Sweet Shop is located at 420 Fairfield Avenue, Bellevue, KY 41073.
You don't even need to get back into your car to get to the next stop on the trail! Witt's End Candy Emporium is located right down the street from Schneider's. Check out this adorable store for old-fashioned candies as well as wrapped ones you can buy in bulk. Witt's End is located at 305 Fairfield Avenue, Bellevue, KY 41073.
Sweet Dreams is located at Newport on the Levee, so there are plenty of other restaurants and shops in the area that you can check out on this stop. It's also right next to the Newport Aquarium. Plus, Newport on the Levee has some magnificent fews of the Ohio River and Cincinnati. Sweet Dreams Candy Company is located at 1 Aquarium Way, Newport, KY 41071.
Here you'll find a wide variety of homemade chocolates, fudge, caramels, ice cream, and caramel apples. Sweet Tooth Candies is located at 125 W. 11th Street, Newport, KY 41071.
5. Colonel De Gourmet Herbs and Spices, Fort Thomas or Florence
Here's where the "spice" comes in on the Sugar and Spice Trail! This gourmet spice shop has two locations in northern Kentucky, one in Florence, and the newest in Fort Thomas. Regardless of which location you choose to stop at, you will be hit with the most delightful smell when you walk through the door. Stop in here to pick up any spices you might need for your holiday cooking, including pumpkin pie spice. Colonel De's two northern Kentucky locations are 18 N. Unlike some of the other stops on this trail, Galerie is not your traditional, old-fashioned candy store. At Galerie, you will find unique and fun confectionary items that make great gifts for holidays or birthdays. Galerie is located at 3380 Langley Drive, Hebron, KY 41048.
Now the trail heads out of northern Kentucky and into horse country. Any list about candy in Kentucky cannot be complete without Rebecca Ruth. The candy store started in 1919 by two women named Rebecca and Ruth. They invented bourbon balls, which are now very popular. You can tour the factory to see how they make their signature candies. Muth's is another iconic confectionary establishment in Kentucky. It is home to Modjeskas which are marshmallows covered in creamy caramel that were invented in Louisville in the 1880s. Muth's is located at 630 E. Market Street, Louisville, KY 40202.
