It started as a way to coax travelers off of the major highways and onto the backcountry roads that wind through small towns and countryside. This would hopefully drum up business for these towns and give visitors a new appreciation for what each state has to offer.

Some participants are selling from their front yards, while other areas have dozens of vendors in one spot. You'll see tents set up along the highway, off side roads, and plenty of signs pointing you in the directions of even more places to explore. These vendors below are set up just north of Russell Springs, Kentucky.

The landscape is gorgeous, and the route is filled with historic sites, adventurous activities, charming places to stay and of course plenty of choices for delicious food.
