The 160-Acre Gage Park In Kansas Features A Rose Garden, A Train, And A Zoo

If you want to travel in the area or have a good excuse to enjoy a weekend away from home sometime, Gage Park in Kansas might push you in that direction.
Welcome to a beautiful section of Topeka known as Gage Park. Established in 1899, this park has grown to include many family friendly activities that bring you a whole day's worth of adventure.
First, stopping by the memorial honoring veterans of all wars past and present is a must. This statue and nameplates are an important stop for many visitors who like to pay respects to heroes passed.
After the memorial, the stunning Reinisch Rose Garden is the place to see. 180 varieties spanning more than 4,500 roses make this historic 1930 garden really gorgeous. Some of these rose varieties you can no longer get commercially! They have the most blooms in late May/early June and early September. If you come earlier in April, you should stop by the Doran Rock Garden for beautiful tulips spread over the green.
Next on our list is the 15-gauge miniature train, ADA accessible and over 50 years running. As long as the weather is nice, riders can enjoy a $2 trip around the park until their last ride runs at 4:45 p.m.. Learn the history of this beautiful place and see some of the best angles as you sit in miniature style.
Also calling Gage Park home is the Topeka Zoo, home to tigers, monkeys, giraffes, and many other wild animals. They hold many educational events through the year, so keep an eye out for the perfect day to visit!
