Welcome to Fick Fossil & History Museum, a spot in Oakley, Kansas where quite a few important eras all come together in one building.
Today, we're interested in things older than ourselves. Around here, you'll find more than a few familiar faces if you know anything about the history of Kansas long before people came along.
History like tylosaurus, a creature native to Kansas, and also one of our official state fossils. The world's oldest known mosasaur fossil resides here as well, for your viewing pleasure. Wow!
Tylosaurus was native to Kansas, though it swam above the ground we have now. Much of western Kansas was an inland sea hundreds of millions of years ago, which left a lot of Niobrara chalk and plenty of sea fossils behind.
Seeing just how many life forms we've found in the area is amazing, and though many of us have seen old shark teeth here and there, the sheer amount of life we had swimming around at one point is amazing.
There’s a lot out there we might not have heard of over the years. If you think you know of somewhere cool in Kansas that we’ve missed, let us know by sending a suggestion to our Nomination page.

Born and raised Kansan, Clarisa has lived in both tiny towns and cities during her time here in the Sunflower State, mostly in the south central area. Clarisa is a stay-at-home mother of one crazy kid, two cats, and two geckos, and has been writing anything and everything since she's held a pencil, though Kansas and fantasy novels take up most of her time.
