Welcome to Bartlett Arboretum in Belle Plaine. This garden is unbelievably beautiful no matter which way you look.
It's full of outdoor concerts, art events, and an event called Tulip Time that shows off tens of thousands of tulip blooms. Doesn't that sound enchanting?
Bartlett Park came into this world in 1910 as an empty prairie area that needed some elbow grease.
Dr. Walter E. Bartlett of Belle Plaine bought this area and started to transform it into a local park for sports and entertainment, but he lined everything he could with indigenous trees. In 1937, his son Glenn took over and the park began to transform into his dream after seeing the Palace of Versailles gardens in France. He and his wife expanded it to a sort of "tree museum" that has slowly evolved into what we have today.
Comparing the differences between then and now are stunning.
Purchasing a season pass gains you entry to any concert here as well as all of the days they are open. Or, you can pay the suggested donation when you enter, and just enjoy the garden once when it's open. You can also contact them for an appointment, so don't be afraid to reach out.
No matter the season, this arboretum is full of colorful surprises and awesome music, but spring sure looks a lot more beautiful after seeing this beautiful place. I think all Kansans should add this to their bucket lists and make a point to visit at least once!

Born and raised Kansan, Clarisa has lived in both tiny towns and cities during her time here in the Sunflower State, mostly in the south central area. Clarisa is a stay-at-home mother of one crazy kid, two cats, and two geckos, and has been writing anything and everything since she's held a pencil, though Kansas and fantasy novels take up most of her time.
