There’s A Little Slice Of Heaven Right Here In Kansas And You’ll Want To Visit
Have you ever traveled to some of the quirkier towns in Kansas and ended up falling in love? This little slice of heaven right here in the Sunflower State is the perfect place to spend a weekend. Or longer, if you like! This little town is incredibly charming, and it doesn’t take much to see why.
Welcome to the beautiful town of Wilson, our very own Czech capital of Kansas.
It's a tiny town of only 700 or so residents, many of which are of Czech decent.
The area was first called "Bosland" in hopes of attracting cattle farmers, but when Czech immigrants from Bohemia came to work on the railroad, it transformed the town.
In 1883, the town was incorporated as Wilson, and the Czech presence here has only spread, giving them the cherished nickname in 1974.
One of the main draws to Wilson is the tourism. After all, how many other Czech towns do we have?
This giant hand-painted Czech egg is the world's largest, and what a sight it is to see.
Of course, another draw to the town is the nearby Wilson Lake and State Park, which are full of amazing natural stone outcroppings and hiking trails.
The lake gets a lot of attention during the summer, when photos among the rocks as well as water sports kick up while it's hot.
Wilson is also home to a number of amazing small businesses you can support as well.
Kansas Originals (merchandise shown above) is full of handmade goods and crafts made by many locals. If you get hungry, make sure to stop by Grandma's Soda Shop or Made From Scratch for amazing meals you'll want the recipe for.
If you decide to stay a while, the Midland Railroad Hotel is a fantastic choice.
They've been here for more than 100 years, and have plenty of history you can learn while you sit for a while.
Next time you're cruising on I-70, why not stop by Wilson for a while? They've got plenty of room at the table for you.
You'll find them along I-70 between Salina and Hays. Until then, hezký den!
While it’s a little cold and snowy out, make sure you don’t forget about these amazing
restaurants that make bierocks of all kinds.
