Kansas’ Annual Lavender Festival Belongs On Your Summertime Bucket List
Any Kansan who has lived here for more than a year knows that spring isn’t a full season, but more of a fleeting dream that leaves us waking up in a hot sweat, aka summer. Summer is right around the corner and could come in full swing by mid-May, or not show its face until June. Whenever it gets here, this annual lavender festival in Kansas is something you should visit every year. Let’s check it out!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
Welcome to Prairie Lavender Farm, an amazing source for home grown lavender and lavender products, and the location of one amazing harvest festival every year.
The farm itself grows over 4600 plants with twelve varieties of Lavender, which makes this probably the best smelling farm in the whole state. They've been working hard since they started in 2002, and the fruits of their labor are plentiful.
Bookmark the date June 15, 2019 for their 12th annual Lavender Festival, from the hours of 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. It happens every year on the third Saturday in June, so if you can't make it this year, don't worry, they'll have it again next year.
During the festival events, you'll find plenty of activities, including a farm tour, demonstration, harvest, shaved ice, live music, live painting, wine tasting, lavender flavored foods, and more.
Admission is only $5 per person over the age of 5, which provides for the entertainment and all of the extra products made for selling during the event.
Prairie Lavender recommends that you bring a sun hat, sunscreen, breathable clothing for the summer heat, and plenty of water. Remember, you're still in Kansas under the summer sun!
Not only will you enjoy the signs and smells of the festival, but the handmade products made with fresh lavender are to die for. Wreaths will make your door the best smelling door on the block, or hang them in the bathroom for a fresh natural scent. They also offer oils, lotion, lip balm, soap, and culinary lavender for cooking.
Not only is this the perfect event for families, but also anyone who loves lavender and supporting small businesses. Prairie Lavender Farm has also recently won an award for being one of the most visited farms in the whole state.
If you would like to visit at another time, their gift shop is open during these hours throughout their open season, April through December 22. The hours are 9 a.m. to noon Thursday through Saturday.
You’ll find Prairie Lavender Farm at 69 Alpine Ridge Ln, Bennington, Kansas. Make sure you check out their website and bookmark it for future information about the event.
If you want to make it a few days of fun instead of just one, check out this lavender farm road trip we’ve planned for you, taking you to all the best smelling places in the state.
