As far as tacos go, this is my favorite spot in Dodge City. I'd recommend the Al Pastor tacos, as they're probably the best thing I've had from their menu! Make-your-own tacos are a fantastic invention, and this place is full of flavor, even when the plates are only styrofoam. It's a strong first spot for this taco trail, that's for sure! Though their atmosphere is modest, big flavor absolutely abounds here.
El Dos de Oros might not have an abundance of photos of their tacos, but don't let that turn you away. Their tacos are just as good as these burritos, no lie. In fact, the entirety of their menu offers flavors that will leave your taste buds downright dazzled.
3. Maria's Mexican Grill - 3212 10th St Great Bend, KS
Yes, I know this doesn't look like a taco. It's a torta. I decided sometimes you need a little break from tacos, and so a sandwich is almost the same thing, minus tortillas. Why not give it a try? It's bound to be better than your local Taco Tico, that's for sure. Don't be put off by the exterior of the restaurant -- it may not look like a Mexican eatery from the outside, but inside you'll find oodles of brilliant colors.
4. La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant - 301 N Broadway St, Abilene, KS 67410
The words "carne asada" will turn my ear no matter what, because I've got a devotion to these tacos for sure. La Fiesta Mexican Restaurant is Abilene's best taco spot, 100 percent! It's no wonder locals have loved this landmark for over a decade and a half.
5. El Tapatio Mexican Restaurant - 322 W 6th St Junction City, KS
Yes, I know. This isn't a taco either, but I was so distracted by this molcajete that I didn't even look for their carne asada. Crazy, right? I'd recommend getting one of these, for sure. Plus, there's always the option of getting both! ¿Porque no los dos? (P.S. The combos here are amazing. If you're in the mood to mix and match, a combo is an incredible way to do just that.)
Taco Lucha is in my Hall of Taco Fame because, well, look at it. It tastes ten times better than it looks, and that's impressive in itself. There's really nothing on this menu I can't recommend to you. Plus, the atmosphere at Taco Lucha is vibrant, cozy, and focused on familia.
Fish tacos! Toto's Tacoz does great fish tacos, and if you can get by the Wizard of Oz themed everything in Wamego, then this is a great place to stop and smell the salsa. Tomatilla salsa, that is! You'll find all sorts of taste bud tempting delicacies at this local landmark.
Last but certainly not least, we've got... carne asada again! I love it to my heart, so I recommend this place based on the fact that this is the only thing I order here. They are truly some of the best tacos in Kansas. However, you'll be able to choose from all sorts of traditional Mexican fare. Don't forget to grab a margarita or two during your visit!
