The Awesome Weekend Trip That Will Show You Kansas Like Never Before
Kansas is a wonderful place, but we all know that. However, there is a road trip this year that we think you shouldn’t miss out on. We no longer have the Kansas Sampler Festival, but you won’t find them slacking off when it comes to learning about our state. The whole idea behind this weekend trip is to get people out there and exploring small towns and restaurants, just like we do every day. Let’s check it out!
For this trip, you’ll pick your path through Barber, Comanche, and Kiowa counties for a Kansas-style adventure you’ll never forget. Restaurants with made-from-scratch food, buildings holding decades or centuries of history, amazing nature unique to this area, and some of the best people Kansas has to offer. After all, southern Kansas is a unique place filled with all sorts of reasons to visit. Mark May 3-6 on your calendar this year for The Big Kansas Road Trip, and let’s see what this area’s all about!
We’re aware that these uncertain times are limiting many aspects of life. While we continue to feature destinations that make our state wonderful, please take proper precautions or add them to your bucket list to see at a later date. If you know of a local business that could use some extra support during these times, please nominate them here: onlyinyourstate.com/nominate
The first reason to travel through these three counties? The scenery!
The Gypsum Hills in Barber County are a real treat, especially if you've only seen the flint hills or flat fields in the rest of the state. It's like a whole other world of nature exists just under our nose.
Not only is the landscape a piece of art, but there's also man made art to be viewed here as well.
The late M.T. Liggett spent a good portion of his years creating quirky political art about all sorts of topics and people. His stretch of road in Mullinville is one that shouldn't be missed on your journey.
Another great reason to take this trip is the attractions!
After all, food is a large part of the Kansas experience. We love our food, and the customers that keep our favorite restaurants going. Pick a town on your travels and visit a restaurant just for fun! Who knows, you might just find your new favorite.
Not only does this trip include all those things, but there's plenty of history to see here as well.
Born and raised Kansan, Clarisa has lived in both tiny towns and cities during her time here in the Sunflower State, mostly in the south central area. Clarisa is a stay-at-home mother of one crazy kid, two cats, and two geckos, and has been writing anything and everything since she's held a pencil, though Kansas and fantasy novels take up most of her time.
