Conversely, there’s also a place in Kansas where you can venture about 650 feet below the surface of our beautiful state. Where is that place you ask? Right in Hutchinson, Kansas. Come take a look at what’s lurking beneath.

Welcome to Strataca, the underground salt museum in Hutchinson that will take you hundreds of feet below the surface.

Visiting, you can learn all about the history of the mine and how salt rocks are formed in the first place.

Equipment that was used decades ago to break up the salt that made this mine so successful is always interesting to see, especially when you know the mine is still in use, albeit much farther away than the museum.

Currently, admission to the underground and The Dark Ride are both handicap accessable, but the train is not.

The only things you'll need to know about your visit is you might want a jacket because it's a little cool down there, you'll need to leave your hats and tobacco products in the car, and no one under the age of 4 is allowed. Other than that, enjoy the two hours (give or take) that you'll spend at the salt mine!

Strataca is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, and 1 to 5 p.m. on Sundays. Tours happen regularly throughout the day, and groups are limited at 30 people.
