Lake Ahquabi Is One Of The Most Underrated Summer Destinations In Iowa

Iowa’s landscape is dotted with lakes and reservoirs, most of them created by man to help control flooding rivers and creeks throughout the state. One of the most underrated places in the Hawkeye State is Lake Ahquabi State Park, where you'll find beautiful trails and a swimming beach in Iowa.

Lake Ahquabi was named for the Fox and Sauk tribes that used this area as a winter resting place.

You'll find more than 6 miles of trails that wind their way around the lake itself and into the surrounding forest.

The park was established in 1934 as Indianola State Park, before the name was changed in recognition of those who lived here first.

Many people visit the lake to enjoy the swimming beach. It's also a great spot to drop in a kayak for paddling or head out on the boat for a day of fishing.
