Now that it’s nearly December, weather is officially cold in Iowa. Hawkeyes everywhere are looking for things to do that won’t leave them searching for their mittens and down jackets. While hiking and biking may be off the table until the sun shines and the weather warms up again, there are still plenty of hidden gems to track down in Iowa. I’m sure you’ve heard of the famous I-80 Truck Stop and Museum, but did you know there’s a little known truckstop not too far away that features one of the best restaurants around? Well, you’d better get out to Audubon and try it for yourself!

You’ll find Waspy’s and the Feed Mill at 2079 US-71, Audubon, IA 50025. The restaurant is open Tuesday through Sunday from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., and the bar is open Mondays from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday is Mexican Buffet Night, Wednesday is Wing Night, and Thursday offers $2 off burgers. Treat yourself to their delicious prime rib on Friday and Saturday nights. The brunch buffet is offered on Sundays, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the restaurant itself is closed on Mondays.

While Waspy’s is certainly a hidden gem, I couldn’t possibly write up an article about an Iowa truck stop restaurant without also mentioning that the world’s largest truckstop isn’t too far away from Waspy’s, and it’s a great idea to check them both out while you’re in the area!
