Adventurers Will Love Sleeping At The Campground Located At Iowa’s Highest Point
OK, we’ll get this out of the way: Hawkeye Point is not exactly Mount Everest. When you summit the highest peak in Iowa and survey your surroundings, you’ll find yourself in a place that’s just a little higher than the surrounding farm fields. It’s Iowa, after all!
But a summit is still a summit, and Iowa’s highest point is not only worth visiting, but it’s also worth spending the night. Hawkeye Point is an attraction and campground and a place you simply have to see. Here’s why.

Hawkeye Point is located in northwest Iowa, just south of the Minnesota border and near the community of Sibley. It's about an hour east of Sioux Falls. A row of signs at the site points toward the locations of the other 49 state high points.
The campground is located right across the street from Hawkeye Point. There are 12 camping sites, a shelter house, modern restrooms, playground equipment, a fire pit, and 24 picnic tables.
There are several interesting things to explore at the site, including a large display of antique farm machinery, "hands-on" history items displayed in a corn crib, and a silo with an observation deck.
Hawkeye Point is a common rest stop for drivers on nearby Interstate Highway 90, a highway that runs from Boston to Seattle.
