If you think about how many dairy products you use in a day, you might be stunned. Creamer in your coffee, milk in your kid’s cereal, butter on your morning bagel… and that’s just breakfast! There are so many dairy farms in the Hawkeye State, but have you ever really given thought as to where all of your dairy products come from?
Of course we know the answer is "from a cow," but if you want to take a glimpse into the industry, you've got to visit Hansen's Dairy.
The Hands-On Tour is one of the coolest experiences you'll ever have. Take a trolley ride, feed a calf, make homemade butter, milk a cow and even pet the Kangaroos and Goats.
Yup, you read right - Kangaroos! The Hands-On Tour costs just $12 per participant, and children 3 and younger tour for free. Your family will have to make a reservation in advance.
The most interesting part of the tour is the factory itself. Hansen's still does things the old fashioned way - including hand-labeling thousands of gallons of milk every day.
At the end of the tour, your group will make your own butter, try out some farm fresh milk, sample ice cream, and taste super fresh cheese curds. Can you think of a better way to wrap up your day?
Don't forget to stop by their store before you leave and pick up real farm-fresh milk! After just one sip, you'll be saying that supermarket milk is no longer good enough for you!

There is also a walk-through guided tour offered for those who aren’t looked to get up close and personal with a working dairy farm.
