In 2015, the BBC designated a little-known bridge in Iowa as one of the Eight Amazing Footbridges in the World. Stunning views of the Des Moines River Valley and lighted architectural elements make it easy to see why the High Trestle Bridge in Madrid, Iowa is so deserving of world-wide recognition.

Take a look at this drone footage captured by youtube user Gopher Aerial:

The bridge’s stunning lights are kept on until midnight each night making it also one of the most romantic spots in the Hawkeye State.

The High Trestle Bridge is part of a rails-to-trails conversion; the bridge portion was completed in 2011. In all, the High Trestle Trail encompasses 25 miles and travels into three Iowa counties. The stunning one-half-mile walking and biking trail on the bridge itself is 10 feet wide and attracts thousands of sightseers each week. To reach the bridge from Madrid head to this address: 2335 Qf Ln, Madrid, IA 50156.
