10 Places In Iowa Where You Can Pick Your Own Delicious Food
There’s nothing like picking your own food fresh from the tree. You really learn to appreciate what you have if you have to work for it, and the same goes for food! Plus, it’s a great way to spend time with family or friends. So, next time you want to get some fresh air, and some fresh food, check out one of these 10 pick-your-own produce farms in Iowa!
During these uncertain times, please keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket list to visit at a later date.
1. Center Grove Orchard, Cambridge
Center Grove Orchard offers pick-your-own apples in many delicious varieties, and you can spend a fun day on the farm with the family while enjoying many activities, such as: a corn maze, hayride, bouncing pillows, pedal carts, farm animals, and much more. When you're done gathering you're apples, check out their shop and try some of their delicious apple doughnuts, apple butter, and apple salsa.
2. Bloomsbury Farm, Atkins
Bloomsbury Farm is a great place to take the family to pick your own pumpkin, and spend some time outdoors doing fun things like zip lining, riding a hayride, walking through a corn maze, shooting a pumpkin cannon, and more.
3. Berry Patch Farm, Nevada
Berry Patch offers a wide variety of pick-your-own berries and apples, with certain apple and red raspberry varieties in season through September and into October. Most of their berries are in season during June, so this is a great place to keep in mind for next summer.
4. Heartland Farms, Waterloo
Heartland Farms in Waterloo offers pick-your-own strawberries, asparagus, and pumpkins. Though asparagus is in season from April to May, and Strawberries in June, you can still head to Heartland in September and October to pick your own pumpkin, and check out their haunted barn, corn maze, and other activities.
5. Getting's Garden, Sanborn
Getting's Garden is a great place to go to pick your own berries. Red raspberries are still in season, and ready to be picked, though a majority of the berries are in season during the summer. When you're done picking, check out Mary's Kitchen for some fresh berry treats and refreshments.
6. Pumpkinland, Orange City
Pumpkinland offers pick-your-own pumpkins, as well as a wide variety of squash, apples, gourds, and popcorn for sale. They also offer a corn maze and petting zoo, and other special events.
7. Pumpkinville, Mitchellville
Pumpkinville is a great place to go to pick your own pumpkin, take a hayride, walk through a corn maze, and have some fun with the whole family.
8. Iowa Orchard, Granger
Iowa Orchard's Granger location offers a wide variety of pick-your-own apples. They also offer tours and other activities for a full day of fun.
9. Allen's Orchard, Marion
Allen's Orchard in Marion offers a wide variety of pick-your-own apples, field trips, unique gifts, bonfires, and weddings or other events.
10. Wilson's Orchard, Iowa City
Wilson's Orchard offers pick-your-own apples, fresh apple cider and apple turnovers, and a day full of fun as you take a tractor ride and walk through the beautiful orchard.
