Wesselman Woods is a 200-acre forest preserve in southern Indiana that offers outdoor recreational experiences as well as education about the environment to residents in the area.

An old-growth lowland forest, this natural paradise contains many hiking trails through diverse ecosystems.

You will come across wetlands, prairies, forestry as well as much wildlife when you journey here. Also part of the Wesselman Nature Society is Howell Wetlands, which at 35 acres is the largest urban wetland ecosystem in the state.

Only foot traffic is allowed on the trails. Guests are allowed to hike, jog, and bring strollers as long as they stay on the trails.

Much of the trail is made up of boardwalks to help get you across the marsh-like terrain, which is especially helpful after the rain. Guests can enjoy this preserve just about any time of year.

You can enjoy all sorts of activities at Wesselman Woods. Canoeing, group programs, summer camps, and even programming for adults is available. You can also host a birthday celebration at this wonderful place.

Admission to this natural paradise is $5 for adults and $3 for children between the ages of 3 and 12. Younger children may enter free of cost.

Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve is open Tuesday through Saturday between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. as well as Sunday between 12 p.m. and 5 p.m., and you can get more details on its website or Facebook page.
