There are some days when you just want to get out and enjoy a good old-fashioned waterfall. There are those days… but then there are also the days where you don’t really want to do the whole “hiking trip” thing to reach that waterfall. And, wouldn’t you know it, oftentimes those two feelings overlap, resulting in a strong desire to find an easily accessible waterfall in Indiana without having to do the work (and without really knowing where to begin). We did some footwork for you and found an easily accessible, awe-inspiring waterfall that’s sure to blow even the most seasoned Hoosier’s mind. Anderson Falls is nestled within Bartholomew County Park, and it’s quite an amazing treat. Best of all, it’s easy to reach.
This amazing area was dedicated as a State Nature Preserve in 2004.
It's an amazingly beautiful part of our little state, but that's not even the best part. The best part of this park isn't the lush greenery or the peace and quiet; no, the best part of this park is the incredible waterfall you'll find here.
It's one of Indiana's most accessible waterfalls, and the way to reach it is less than a mile long. It's right along the side of the road you can use to reach it, and it's an easy trek down.
Find the parking area of the Anderson Falls Park/State Nature Preserve just off of County Road 1140 E.
It's quite an impressive sight; it may only be a dozen feet tall, but it's more than 100 feet wide and impossible to miss. It's best visited following a good, solid rainstorm; the volume of the falls varies by seasonal rainfall and runoff, so it's always wise to plan your trip around this.
No matter what time of year, though, as long as the falls are running, they are amazing.
If you've never visited them before, you're certainly in for a treat. They are breathtakingly beautiful and, thanks to more popular waterfalls located in nearby state parks, they don't get as much traffic as they ought to.
It feels like some kind of beautiful secret we're all in on; these awe-inspiring falls are easily one of Indiana's best hidden gems, and you'll want to bring your camera to this one for sure.
