This Funky Little Town In Indiana Is A True Hidden Gem
If you’re like us, you’re always on the lookout for cool new places and towns to check out. You’re a little on the adventurous side, and you enjoy visiting places you’ve never been to before. Well, there’s one small town in Indiana that’s perfect for folks just like us; it’s an eclectic artists’ colony situated in what is known as the most beautiful region of the state – Brown County. It’s the incomparable Nashville! This unique little town in Indiana seems to be perfect for those who prefer going off the beaten path.
Nestled within Washington Township in Brown County is Nashville - not to be confused, of course, with the more-famous city in Tennessee of the same name.
It was officially incorporated in 1872; as the 1800s transitioned into the 1900s, a noticeable number of artists began filtering into town. They became the founders of the Brown County Art Colony - which made its home right in Nashville.
Nowadays, Nashville is a hub for eclectic shops, intriguing art galleries, independent eateries and restaurants, and so much more.
It's hard to overstate just how different from most Midwestern towns Nashville is. It seems to have it all: personality, friendliness, and a hint of eclectic wonder.
Of course, being in Brown County, it's also in close proximity to Brown County State Park, which is frequently called the "most beautiful" region of the entire state.
We're inclined to agree; the state park is simply the cherry on top of an otherwise amazing county. There's so much to do - including the parks and everything places like Nashville have to offer - that it might feel a little overwhelming at first. But don't worry: we've got you.
Notable things to do, see, and experience in Nashville include a visit to the world-famous Brown County Winery, where unique wines are crafted from many more fruits than simply grapes.
If wineries are your thing, you'll also want to check out Country Heritage Winery, which has been in operation for well over a century. It's easy to see why: the wines that come out of this place are to die for.
If you're a fan of the artistic side of Nashville, you'll want to check out must-sees like the Brown County Art Guild, located smack-dab in the heart of downtown.
You'll find all sorts of artworks and masterpieces by some of the original founders of the Art Guild, as well as more than 40 local artists. There are all sorts of events all year long; the best part, we think, is that it's free!
Another option to check out for the art lover is the Brown County Art Gallery.
This is quite literally one of the oldest art galleries in the country, and it's all ours! Once you've had your fill of the artsy stuff (and there's a lot more than just the things mentioned here), you might also want to visit the old T.C. Steele State Historic Site, which was once part of the homestead of famous Hoosier painter T.C. Steele (obviously).
In a nutshell, Nashville might be a quaint little town of fewer than 1,000 people, but by no means should you let that lull you.
It's got as much to do wrapped inside as any big city; it's one of Indiana's unsung treasures, and it's worth a visit no matter where you're from.
We suggest making your stay longer than a mere day trip; if you do choose to stay the night (or more), you really ought to check out the old Story Inn – which may or may not be ultra-haunted. What’s your favorite quirky little town in Indiana? Tell us your choices in the comments!

Tori Jane is a storm chaser, writer, photographer, and the village idiot - in that order. When she's not out and about dancing with the meanest storms on planet Earth for funsies she can be found wandering, shooting landscapes, writing, editing photos, and otherwise up to no good. Legend has it that she can also be occasionally spotted typing up short bios in the third person, but those rumors are unsubstantiated.
