Dine At The Historic Spot In Indiana Where Abraham Lincoln Once Dined
Hidden away in small-town Indiana is an unassuming-looking little restaurant that doesn’t exactly turn many heads. That is unless you know its history – suddenly, it gets a lot more interesting. The building in question is The Log Inn, which has the delightful honor of being the oldest restaurant in Indiana. How old is it? Oh, not terribly so – just old enough for Abraham Lincoln himself to have visited once upon a time. You can even dine in the same room he once did! The historic Log Inn was built in 1825, making it nearly two centuries old now.
It was actually one of the first stagecoach stops and inns in the United States, and it proved to be invaluable in many ways. By the 1840s, the Log Inn was THE place to stop between Vincennes and Evansville.
No longer a stagecoach stop or a place to lay your head, The Log Inn is now a trusty dining spot serving up truly delectable, all-American comfort food galore.
Much of the interior is the same as it's always been, so be sure to ask to eat in the Lincoln Room - that's where the man himself once was.
He stopped at the Log Inn while on the campaign trail for Henry Clay in 1844. Sure, you may not spot any American Presidents while you're here now, but... you never know.
The food served up at The Log Inn is definitely fit for a king, though, so at least you'll be dining well.
We strongly suggest trying the fried chicken; it's almost always perfectly crispy on the outside and juicy and tender on the inside. Numerous reviews rave about it being the best, and we're inclined to agree.
Be prepared for huge servings at a family-style table!
The Log Inn has a diverse menu full of options; you get to pick and choose which ones you want brought to the table en masse. We're also fond of the country ham, roast beef, mashed potatoes, and so much more. Try it - you'll never want to eat anywhere else.
There's something delicious (or interesting) to love about the Log Inn for just about everyone.
Even if you've got kids in tow who aren't terribly interested in history, they'll still find something to eat they're sure to love. Reservations are encouraged!
