Have you ever wondered where the cheapest yet greatest places to live in Indiana are? Yeah, me too. Unless you happen to already live in one of these cheap and fabulous places, you might be considering moving one day. I did some digging and researching based on cost of living, population, and a few other statistics, and I managed to compile this list of options for you.
I hesitate to include this very, very small community because most people don’t even know it exists. Clarksburg has a population of just slightly more than 100 people. This community has less than 0.5 square miles of land.
Saratoga is another one that a lot of you are probably going to be saying "Sara who?" This town is home to just slightly more than 250 people. It is part of Randolph County.

Mount Auburn is a town with less than 120 people and less than 35 different families in it. If you don’t mind living in a very small town, the town is extremely affordable. This town is part of Wayne County in case you are curious.

Parker City is another town located in Randolph County. This town has a population of less than 1,200 people. Despite having more people, this town has a land mass of just 0.57 square miles.
Union City has a population of almost 4,000 people. This is yet another community located in Randolph County. This is leading me to believe Randolph County is likely one of the most affordable counties in Indiana.
I’m finding it interesting how many of the towns, cities, and communities to make this list are those you do not really hear people talking about. I guess not everyone would want you to know these are the most affordable places to live in the state. Obviously, a lot of people moving to these communities could suddenly make them more expensive to live in. Portland is home to a little more than 6,000 people.

Winchester is a city in the state of Indiana that ranks high on both cost of living and housing. This makes it an ideal choice for living and raising a family. Ironically enough, it is also located in Randolph County. Did you know this city is known as Sugar Cream Pie Capital of the US? Yum!

I was a little surprised to see any community in Marion County make this list because Marion County isn’t exactly my first though when it comes to most affordable places to live. This particular community is home to less than 250 people. It is ideal if you want to be part of a small community that is affordable to live in. When I say small, I do mean small, as it has less than 0.2 square miles of land mass.
Westfield is home to right around 30,000 people. The city was originally founded back in 1836. It is part of Hamilton County and a great place to live if you are looking for both affordability and great housing options.
Apparently, Rome City is a well-kept secret as finding pictures of the actual town is a little difficult. That being said, it is home to a little more than 1,300 people and it is one of the cheapest and greatest places to live in Indiana.
Dyer is home to a little more than 16,000 people. This is a town that tends to make a lot of these lists of best towns/cities/places to live in Indiana. In fact, this town actually made the list of 100 best places to live in the United States back in 2005.
