Indiana isn’t exactly well known for its beaches or swimming holes. While most of the country flocks to coastal regions for fun in the sand, Hoosiers know that there are actually plenty of amazing places in Indiana to enjoy a clear sky and blue water. And there’s one place in particular that just might have the bluest water in the entire state…
No Hoosier is a stranger to the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, a massive and unique slice of nature off the coast of Lake Michigan. But the dunes have so many beaches to pick from, that many people end up going with the main one, which can get rather packed. But nearby, at Kemil Beach, you can experience some of the bluest water you’ve ever seen!
Kemil Beach is located off of East State Park Road in Beverly Shores, Indiana. This beach is a part of the main National Lakeshore, but is completely free to access. This gorgeous beach is arguably one of the best the dunes has to offer.

Aside from the stunning blue water, this beach is also pet friendly, so long as your furry friend is under six feet tall. Kemil Beach opens at 7am in the morning and closes approximately a half hour after sundown, so be sure to plan accordingly.
This blue water beach also has amazing hiking options and its Dunes Ridge Trail is easy and short enough for most hikers to complete. The trail rewards you once you finish it by bringing you to an overlook that allows you to take in the beauty of Kemil Beach from a higher distance.
